What Causes Bad Breath?

Bad breath—medically known as halitosis—can be caused by a number of things. One of the most commonly known causes of bad breath is diet. Foods like curry, fish, onions, and garlic are among the top offenders. Rinsing your mouth with water or chewing a piece of sugarless gum can help fight the odors after eating, but brushing and flossing your teeth are better options to remove all traces of the unwanted odors. A Time Line of Dental Implants

Dental implants as we know them have been in use since the 1970s, but these state-of-the-art dental restorations—in one form or another—have been in existence since ancient times.

The earliest dental implants on record were used by the Mayans in 600 A.D. Over the years, archeologists have discovered skulls dating back to this era in which teeth were replaced by materials like carved stones, jade, and seashells.             Dental implants have a success rate of ninety-eight percent, but a common misconception about dental implants is that they can restore missing teeth for all patients. While dental implants can provide natural-looking replacement teeth for most healthy patients, not all patients with missing teeth are candidates for the procedure.

            Dental implant patients must have a healthy jawbone in order to support the implant and successfully undergo the osseointegration process in which the jawbone fuses to the implant post. Because missing teeth can lead to jawbone degeneration, many patients that have had gaps in their smile for a long amount of time no longer have the jawbone density needed to support a dental implant.
